The objectives of this research article were to study the state of loneliness in Thai society and the state of loneliness caused by the lack of urban social interaction in the metropolis. Within this paper, the researcher complied the problems, causes and effects of current loneliness to apply with a creative design approach by transforming the problem and integrating psychological theories. It could encourage common people to be aware of the effects of loneliness with relevant theories that might well cope with loneliness. This research was action research. Data were collected to prepare a creative presentation for conveying the meaning and feelings of those who face loneliness in Thai society.
The findings revealed that the state of loneliness can happen to any gender, age, and period. In general, a state of loneliness occurs when life factors change somehow. Those factors will likely contribute to a lack of social interaction or feeling of inadequacy in relationships with others. Thus, it has emotional and psychological effects which induce loneliness, defenselessness, suffering, and social isolation as well as a state of loneliness as well. Therefore, “lack of social interaction” is another crucial issue for this creative design approach. The aim is to convey the meaning and feeling of loneliness in the exhibition as clearly as possible.
